FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

THE 3 PILLARS OF LENT – PRAYER, FASTING AND ALMSGIVING
Sacred Scripture, the Church Fathers, and Tradition invite us to live Lent with a spirit of interior conversion, made concrete in three things: fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1434 says: "Express conversion in relation to oneself, to God, and to others."

No. 1438 of the Catechism goes on to say: "The seasons and days of penance in the course of the liturgical year (Lent, and each Friday in memory of the death of the Lord) are intense moments of the Church's penitential practice. These times are particularly appropriate for: spiritual exercises, penitential liturgies, pilgrimages as signs of penance, voluntary self-denial such as fasting and almsgiving, and fraternal sharing (charitable and missionary works)."
