Reflection - It Was You All AlongReflection - A Personal Investment

In the Gospel for this weekend the Lord puts before us an important truth about our human nature: when it comes to our relationship to God and to money, we can only have one master. We will either love the first and hate the second or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn. This is because one love casts out the other.

The love of God purifies us of the love of money and the love of money causes us to diminish in our love of God. The human heart is created to be conquered by love and if we do not allow ourselves to be conquered by the love of God then we leave ourselves open to be conquered by the love of something else such as money. When this happens then we begin to slip into slavery and we will act with less and less freedom. But when the love of God is primary in our lives, when we submit in humility to His will, then, we enter into true and lasting freedom.

This is the paradox at the core of our faith; it is only in making the gift of our will, our freedom, our hearts, and our lives to God that we actually come to experience authentic liberty. In becoming the ‘slave of God’ we are made free.

CHANGE OF MASS TIMES

SUNDAY MASS TIMES
The Sunday Mass times will be 8.00 am, 10.00 am and 12 noon as from Sunday 30th September 2007. The same times will apply for Holydays of Obligation. The Vigil Mass will be at 6pm on Saturday evenings as usual.

WEEKDAY EVENING MASS will be at 7.30 pm, as always. Having consulted parishioners the majority feel that 7.30 pm is a more convenient time. There are a number of people who would like an earlier Mass but the majority prefer 7.30 pm. Thank you for your suggestions and commitment.

DEAR YOUNG PEOPLE put yourselves under the protection of Mary, said Pope Benedict XVI recently. "Put your lives and each of your projects under the maternal protection of the One who gave to the world a Saviour. Speaking to the sick, the Holy Father continued: "As you wait to regain your health, ask Her each day for the strength to confront with patience the trials of suffering." To the newlyweds present, the Pope said: "cultivate a sincere devotion to her so that she will be at your side in your daily life."

BACK TO SCHOOL ADVICE from the Vatican this year says it is not enough to gain technical knowledge. "To live wisely involves sacrifice, renunciation, domination of our desires, of our instincts," Cardinal Grocholewski said. "Contact with the Lord helps a great deal in the formation of wisdom, therefore teaching religion is important. It is important that your faith grows," the cardinal added, "and never forget your prayer because your greatest friend is Christ.” The cardinal also spoke about the values that schools today must try to recover: "Above all one must try and love the truth and search for the truth. Cardinal Grocholewski also had a word for teachers, defining a good educator as “one who loves their students. It is very important that teachers confirm with their lives, with their example, with their love, that which they teach."
