Mission Sunday
Reflection
“…pray always without becoming weary.”
Prayer, it seems
to me, is an acknowledgement of our relationship with
God, and more importantly, and acknowledgement of
our dependency on God. Prayer keeps us open to the
presence of God in our lives. We make time for God
and spend time with God when we have come to value
and appreciate God’s love for us.
Prayer is what we do when we fully enter into the
words and actions of the Mass. It is what we do when
we let the word of Scripture address our lives. It
is what we do when we speak to God about the joys
and sorrows, hurts and disappointments, successes
and failures we have experienced.
Each year I participate in a directed retreat where
I spend time (in silence) with others who make prayer
the centre of their lives. It is such a support to
be with people who spend their days, like you, in
communication with God. Prayer for me is like that
one difficult piece of a jigsaw puzzle that pulls
together the other sections. Through our daily conversations
with God, we uncover meaning in the mysteries of life.
Am I conscious of the routine
ways in which I can converse with God?
