DIVINE MERCY - Sunday 15th April 2007

This is the Divine Image that appeared to Sister (now Saint) Faustina in Poland in the 1930s. "In the evening in my cell, I saw Jesus clothed in white, one hand raised in blessing the other resting on His breast. From His garment came rays of light, one red and the other pale in colour. Jesus said to me, "Paint an image according to the vision you see with the signature "Jesus I Trust in You." I desire that this image be venerated first in your chapel and then throughout the world. The two beams of light shining forth from My Heart, are the symbols of blood and water that poured from My side on the day of my sacrifice on Calvary. The pale beam represents the water that purifies souls (Baptism), the red, the blood that gives life to souls (Eucharist)."

"You will prepare the world for the final coming." (Diary 1, 178). Sister Faustina was instrumental in spreading the Divine Mercy Chaplet, which is now prayed by millions of people world wide, a devotion by which even the worst sinner can obtain the mercy of God. Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 18th April 1993 and was canonized on 30th April 2000 in Rome.

The main Promises given by Jesus to Saint Faustina:
? "I promise the soul that will venerate my Image will not perish. I also promise victory over that soul's enemies here on earth, and especially at the hour of death."
? "Souls who spread the honour of my Mercy…at the hour of death I shall not be a judge for them, but the Merciful Saviour."
? "I desire that the Feast of my Mercy be celebrated on the Sunday after Easter."
? "Prayers for conversion are always heard and answered."

The Feast of Mercy focuses on God's mercy as an event! It focuses on God's continuing action of mercy throughout salvation history as we see it recorded in St Paul's Letter to the Romans (chapters 9, 10 and 11) culminating in His loving plan to have mercy on all! (See Rom. 11:32). This Feast is a summation of the event of His mercy active in our lives now. It is because of His mercy that we have forgiveness of sin and new life as children of God. This needs to be celebrated! At 3.00pm today (Sunday) in Long Tower Church we will celebrate the Divine Mercy Devotions. All welcome!
