It can present in many different forms. The most obvious one is physical violence but domestic abuse can also be emotional, verbal, sexual and financial. These more subtle forms can be difficult to talk about or you may think that no-one would believe you if there is no visible evidence. It may not only be you who is on the receiving end of the abuse, the tension, the crippling fear - it could also be your children! They are often the hidden victims who either experience the abuse directly or witness or overhear the abuse continuously. If you are a victim or are worried about someone who you believe may be victim you can get in help by contacting a support worker at Foyle Women's Aid.
